Infrared Clouds

I have always loved clouds with their ever changing beautiful shapes. When I found a really nice cloudscape as a background to my air to air photography I was in seventh heaven.

Clouds in the Infrared spectrum are particularly beautiful as they are contrasted against the dark skies of the infrared world. Haze is mainly scattered blue light; an added bonus of infrared is that it can see through this haze and give a clarity to the atmosphere that cannot otherwise be seen. The camera used for the majority of these images is fitted with an almost completely infrared filter (720nm for the more technically minded) with very little visible light being transmitted. This results in very ‘clean’ looking clouds that are a brilliant white set against a dramatically dark sky.
